This report examines the market in Germany for crawler dozers and loaders. In addition to road construction, the crawler dozer is used for a variety of construction applications, while the national government´s aim to modernise and upgrade the country´s aging infrastructure is a key driver of demand for these machines. 

Crawler dozers available for sale in Germany range from 90 to over 800 horsepower, with the four suppliers being Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr and Case. It is a traditional machine type, and since 2014 has represented a growing market in Germany, albeit from a relatively base.

Germany has been the largest market in Europe for crawler dozers by some considerable margin since 1992, accounting for 41 per cent of total regional sales in 2017. During the post-reunification boom in 1992 this figure was nearer 65 per cent.

The range of crawler loaders runs from models of 140 horsepower equipped with a 1.8 m³ bucket, to the larger types at 180-270 horsepower with buckets of 2.0-4.6 m³ and are used in quarries and on large civil engineering contracts. The majority of crawler loader sales lies within the 130 to 190 horsepower range.

The findings presented in this report are based on Off-Highway Research’s International Database, and on information collected during an interview programme in Germany conducted in January and February 2019 with all suppliers.
