This report provides an updated analysis of the asphalt paver market in the United Kingdom, and is an update of the report produced by Off-Highway Research in January 2017. It examines the significant changes that have taken place over the past five years and offers a forecast for the industry for the next five years. The findings are based on Off-Highway Research's Database Service, and supported by insights gained from an extensive interview programme conducted in June and July 2024. This programme involved detailed discussions with key industry participants, including leading importers and distributors in the asphalt paver market.

According to the RAC, as of 2023 the total length of roads in the United Kingdom is estimated to be 245,700 miles. This extensive network includes approximately 2,300 miles of motorways, which are designed for high-speed travel. In addition, there are about 29,600 miles of 'A' roads, serving as major routes for longer journeys. Most of the road network consists of minor roads, totalling around 213,800 miles. This figure includes roughly 18,800 miles of 'B' roads and about 195,000 miles of 'C' and 'U' roads, which cater to local traffic and access to residential areas.

With such a large road network, which requires periodic repair or resurfacing due to wear, and new road projects being built, there will always be demand for asphalt pavers. The demand though, is based on approved maintenance schedules and new road projects coming to fruition, which in the current economic climate can be haphazard. Central government, and local authorities are constantly reviewing their budgets to maintain tight fiscal control, which is influencing many public sector responsibilities
