• Indian Equipment Analysis: Dump Trucks

This report is an update of the study last undertaken by Off-Highway Research in June 2022, and concerns the market in India for rigid and articulated off-highway dump trucks. It assesses current trends, examines the operations of domestic manufacturers and main suppliers, and forecasts trends that are likely to emerge over the next five years.

Off-highway dump trucks find their major applications in the power sector, where they are deployed for coal mining and the construction of hydro-electric projects. They are also used in other mineral mines, stone quarries, and those construction sites which require substantial earthwork to be carried out. They are not permitted to operate on the highway owing to their large size and high axle loads.

Traditionally contractors engaged in general construction, real estate and the road sector have preferred to use relatively low priced, locally manufactured on-highway trucks. These machines have smaller payloads, and are permitted on the highway, but do not constitute a part of this study.

The data sourced from government statistics in various tables are based on the fiscal year, which begins on 1st April and ends on 31st March of the following year. For example, fiscal year 2023 refers to the data from April 2023 to March 2024. On the other hand, all other data corresponds to the calendar year.

The findings presented in this report are based on Off-Highway Research’s database and information collected during an interview programme undertaken in April and May 2024, which included discussions with the leading manufacturers, importers and distributors
