This report analyses the market in Italy for hydraulic excavators, which are defined as machines mounted either on tyres, or on steel or rubber trucks, capable of slewing 360 degrees. Machines with a weight below 6 tonnes, known as mini excavators, are the subject of a separate report in the European Service, and are not included in this report. However, those machines with a weight classification of between 6.1 and 12 tonnes and referred to as “midi” or “compact” excavators, often with a special design to minimise tailswing and useful on confined job sites, are included in the report’s definition of hydraulic excavators.

The findings represented in this report are based on Off-Highway Research’s International Database Service, and on information collected during an extensive interview programme in Italy undertaken in the first half of 2023; this included interviews with the leading Italian manufacturers and the relevant importers and distributors.
