This report analyses the market in Germany for hydraulic excavators, which are defined as machines mounted on steel or rubber trucks, capable of slewing 360 degrees. Machines with a weight below 6 tonnes, known as mini excavators, are the subject of a separate report in the European Service, and are not included in this study. However, those machines with a weight classification of between 6.1 and 12 tonnes and referred to as “midi” or “compact” excavators, often with a special design to minimise tail swing and useful on confined work sites, are included in the report’s definition of hydraulic excavators.

The findings presented in this report are based on an extensive interview programme undertaken with all major manufacturers and importers in Germany during September 2023, and on Off-Highway Research’s International Database Service.
