This report concerns the North American market for motor graders and is the first report on this subject published in Off-Highway Research’s North American Service.

Motor graders are used in civil engineering work to level and shape material, usually earth. The word ‘grade’ in construction denotes the level and angle of the ground, hence motor graders are machines which establish this. They feature a long, mid-mounted blade which is used to create level or angled surfaces in the material being shaped. Most graders have three axles – two at the back and one at the front - featuring a cab and engine above the rear two.

The findings presented in this report are based on an extensive interview program undertaken with all major manufacturers and importers in USA and Canada during Spring 2023, and incorporates information from Off Highway Research’s North American Database.
