This report concerns the UK market for articulated and rigid wheeled loaders, which range from 30 to over 1,200 horsepower. All machines are classified by their engine output so that similarly sized machines can be compared, although it is quite common for customers to request a machine by bucket capacity. However, it is usual for a wheeled loader to be sold with three or more sizes and types of bucket, chosen according to the conditions and applications in which the machine will work. To compare machines only by bucket capacity would therefore lead to confusion.

Backhoe loaders and skid-steer loaders have been excluded from this report, but where a manufacturer produces a pure wheeled loader derivative of a backhoe loader or skid-steer loader, sales of these products have been included.

The data in this report is based on Off-Highway Research’s own database and from research carried out in the country during early 2022, through an extensive interview programme which included all major manufacturers and distributors. The report is an update of the study last published by Off-Highway Research in August 2017.
