The objective of this study is to present a concise overview of the development of various types of construction equipment and agricultural tractors in Switzerland since the publication of Off Highway Research’s previous report in 2017. Each product is reviewed in terms of the major trends that have taken place since then, and a forecast to 2026 is supplied. The report concludes with profiles of all major importers, and of the two Swiss manufacturers of construction machinery.
The findings presented in this study are based upon information collected during an extensive interview programme in Switzerland undertaken during November and December 2021, which included all the leading importers and manufacturers.
There is a formal exchange of sales statistics between importers of construction equipment, which is organised by the Swiss trade association, VSBM, although not
all importers participate in this. The data in this report includes information from all suppliers irrespective of their VSBM membership status and is also based on Off- Highway Research’s own database. Agricultural tractor data is based upon officially published registration figures.
In addition to the VSBM, the most relevant trade associations include the Schweizerischer Landmaschinen-Verband, based in Bern, which represents the interests of Switzerland’s agricultural machinery dealers, the Schweizerischer Baumeisterverband in Zürich for construction contractors, and the Schweizer Bauernverband in Brugg, the farmers’ union.
The construction industry is served by two leading publications, the Schweizer Baublatt, and Schweizer Bauwirtschaft, the official organ of the Schweizerischer Baumeisterverband. The interests of the farming community are represented by an array of small magazines and newspapers.
