This report concerns off-highway dump trucks and is an update of the study which was last published in the European Service in May 2016. It assesses the current trends in the market, examines the operations of the domestic manufacturers and main suppliers, and forecasts the likely trends of the market over the next five years.
The report considers both the articulated dump truck, which is available with either two or three axles and which ranges in payload capacity from 18 tonnes to 55 tonnes, and the rigid dump truck, usually comprising two axles, which carries a payload from 28 to over 300 tonnes. Because of their axle weight distribution and dimensions, rigid and articulated dump trucks are generally not permitted on public roads, which many operators consider to be an overwhelming disadvantage – hence the small size of the total markets. Instead, they therefore choose to use robust on-off highway trucks. Although such machines are not considered in this report their impact should not be understated as they are substantially cheaper than genuine offhighway trucks and are consequently very popular.
The findings presented in this report are based on Off-Highway Research’s International Database Service, and on information collected during an interview programme in Italy undertaken in March 2022, which included all leading manufacturers, importers and distributors.
