Chile is second only to Brazil as one of the largest construction equipment markets in South America. In addition, the country’s mineral wealth, particularly in copper, makes it one of the most important markets in the world for large surface mining equipment. The aim of this report is to present a concise overview of the development of the construction equipment industry in Chile since 2017, assessing the major changes which have taken place since then, and those which are likely to occur by 2026.
Following an initial period of desk research, Off-Highway Research undertook an in-depth field research programme in Chile in February-April 2022. Interviews were conducted with the most significant independent importers of construction equipment, and with the national headquarters of major equipment producers. OffHighway Research would like to record its deep appreciation to all those who assisted in the compilation of this report.
The first section of this study includes background information, such as the political and economic history, current economic activity including construction and mining, and prospects those industries and the general economy. The conclusions apply to all the product areas and are therefore not repeated in each analysis.
