This report is an update of the Hitachi Construction Machinery profile that was last published by Off-Highway Research in December 2015. Hitachi Ltd began manufacturing rope shovels in Japan in 1950. The construction machinery division was established as an independent company on 1st October 1970 and was renamed Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd (HCM). This operation was to become the main driving force behind the company’s entry into the Chinese construction equipment market, and was the original foundation of the success that it has achieved today.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, HCM (TSE: 6305) has become a global leading construction machinery manufacturer, focusing on the development, manufacturing, sales, and service operations for hydraulic excavators, wheeled loaders, road construction machines, and mining machinery. For reasons of simplicity, the name Hitachi is used in this report to refer to all affiliates of HCM in this country.
