• South America Country Analysis: Argentina

Argentina is the second largest country in South America, with a geography that ranges from vast farming plains to major mining regions, alongside an urban network dominated by the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, where much of the country’s economic activity is concentrated. Over the past decades, Argentina has gone through repeated cycles of macroeconomic instability, marked by high inflation, currency restrictions and limited access to credit. These conditions have shaped the pace of investment in construction and infrastructure. Even so, the construction sector remains a key driver of jobs and a reliable indicator of the wider economy.

Public investment has consistently focused on road and energy infrastructure, although progress has often relied on external financing and public–private partnerships. Mining has also gained ground as a strategic industry, particularly in provinces such as San Juan, Catamarca and Jujuy, with copper and lithium projects expected to play a larger role in shaping demand for equipment in the years ahead. Against this backdrop, the market for construction machinery in Argentina reflects both the opportunities created by these productive projects and the constraints imposed by the country’s economic environment.

The objective of this report is to provide a detailed overview of the development of the construction equipment industry in Argentina since 2020, analysing significant changes that have occurred and those that are expected through 2029.

After an initial desk research phase, Off-Highway Research conducted an extensive field research programme in Argentina. During this phase, interviews were conducted with leading construction equipment dealers and industry experts. OffHighway Research would like to express its sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the production of this report.
