This report concerns the market for agricultural tractors in Italy, and is an update on the subject which was last covered in the European Service in 2021. The country is still a major market for agricultural tractors and also a major European producer.

Nevertheless, the rationalisation of the farming industry locally, which has been happening since the turn of the millennium, and an increase in competition from global suppliers, has had a noticeable effect upon both the market and producers. As a result, domestic sales volumes have now fallen to a historically low level, while some smaller manufacturers are struggling to survive; overall production output is lower than at any point in at least the last 25 years.

The products covered in this report include wheeled and crawler tractors ranging from small, under 25 horsepower machines from overseas manufacturers through specialist vineyard and orchard machines used in fruit growing areas to heavy 600 horsepower crawler machines. Single axle walking tractors or power tillers, used to a large extent on small landholdings, are not part of this analysis.

All data in this report which refers to ‘agricultural tractors’ includes wheeled and crawler tractors, although where possible the tables and analysis show the division between the two types. In Off-Highway Research’s International Database Service all Italian tractor data refers to the combined total of wheeled and crawler tractors.

The findings presented in this report are based on interviews with the major manufacturers and importers of tractors in mid- to late-2025. The Italian tractor trade association, Federunacoma, supplies comprehensive information on registrations, which are the basis for the sales figures in this report. To obtain a more balanced view of the marketplace, Off-Highway Research’s International Database Service has also been extensively used.
