Deutz AG has evolved in recent years from a manufacturer of conventional engines into a system provider for innovative and sustainable mobility and energy solutions. Founded in 1864 in Cologne, where it is still based today, Deutz is the world’s oldest engine company. The development, production, and marketing of highperformance drive systems for off-highway applications in the power range up to 620 kW remains at the heart of its operations. The company is also playing its part in the transition to more sustainable transportation and power supplies by offering alternative drive solutions and decentralised energy and power generation systems.
The current portfolio extends from diesel and gas engines to hybrid and all-electric drives that are used in various applications, including construction equipment, agricultural machinery, material handling equipment such as forklift trucks and lifting platforms, commercial vehicles, rail vehicles, and boats used for private or commercial purposes. In addition, Deutz operates in the field of decentralised energy supply through its subsidiary Blue Star Power Systems Inc.
The broad-based product portfolio is complemented by an extensive service offering that encompasses maintenance and repair work, the supply of spare parts, and remanufacturing. This is being continually expanded with the addition of digital, data-driven services. Deutz has an extensive global distribution network numbering more than 1,000 sales and service partners in over 120 countries, in addition to 14 subsidiary companies, 27 service centres and six sales offices worldwide. In addition to its main factory in Cologne, the company has 10 other engine and component manufacturing facilities in Germany, Spain, Morocco, USA and China. Deutz employs more than 5,000 people worldwide and generated revenue of approximately €1.8 billion in 2024.
Since the start of 2025, Deutz’s operating activities have been divided into two segments: Deutz Engines & Services and Deutz Solutions.
The Deutz Engines & Services segment, which accounted for 91.7 per cent of total revenue in the first half of 2025, encompasses the development, production, distribution, maintenance, and servicing of diesel and gas engines, including the nascent defence business. This segment comprises the Deutz Classic and Deutz Service business units.
The Deutz Solutions segment includes alternative drives as well as business activities that go beyond engine manufacturing and service. It is subdivided into the two business units, Deutz New Technology and Deutz Energy. Deutz New Technology covers electrified products, hydrogen combustion engines, battery management specialist Futavis, and the associated service business. The Deutz Energy business unit focuses on the business of genset manufacturer Blue Star Power Systems, which was acquired in 2024.
From a regional perspective, sales of Deutz Group engines are focused on the Europe, North America, and Asia regions. The Group faces competition from rival engine suppliers, mainly in Germany, Italy, the UK, Japan, and the USA.
