This report examines in detail the Indian market for crawler dozers and is an update of the study that Off-Highway Research last undertook on the subject in April 2020. It presents an assessment of the prevailing business environment, changing market trends, the operations of the main machine suppliers in the country, and a forecast for the next five years.

Crawler dozers are used primarily for heavy earthmoving work on mining, irrigation, and construction sites. The markets for agriculture, light construction and specialised applications are yet to fully evolve, while some machines are modified for deployment in the pipe-laying sector.

The general market for these machines is well established but remains relatively small in unit terms when compared to other construction equipment sectors such as backhoe loaders and hydraulic excavators. However, it remains a key product for the development of infrastructure and mining.

The findings presented in this report are based on the existing database of Off- Highway Research, and on information collected during a detailed interview programme that was carried out during February and March 2022 with the leading manufacturers, importers, and distributors of crawler dozers in the country.
